FC Zürich have started planning for European football next season, bringing in 20-year-old Tunisia forward Yassine Chikhaoui from Étoile Sportive du Sahel.
Long contract
Chikhaoui has signed a five-year contract with Zürich, binding him to the Swiss side until 2012. Tunisia's Player of the Year in 2006, he took the domestic title this term with Étoile du Sahel. A member of the Tunisia squad that travelled to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he made one appearance in Germany. An official statement said that Chikhaoui is "a perfect alternative to forwards Rafael, Alexandre Alphonse, Eudis, [Kresimir] Stanic and [Marco] Schönbächler". Defending champions Zürich top the Swiss Super League and will enter the second qualifying round of next season's UEFA Champions League should they maintain their one-point lead over second-placed FC Basel 1893 on the last day of the season on Thursday.
