Cypriot football is in mourning after APOP/Kinyras Peyias FC striker Savvas Zoetsas was found dead, having apparently committed suicide.

Grim discovery
The 28-year-old was found dead in his car by traffic police at Aphrodite's Rock in his hometown of Paphos in the early hours of Sunday morning. Zoetsas, who was also a policeman, had seemingly shot himself with his service revolver. Police have suggested that he was concerned about family problems.

Fond tributes
Friends and team-mates have paid tribute to Zoetsas, who gained a reputation as a supersub with AEP Paphos FC and Nea Salamis FC and also played for Evagoras FC, Akritas Chlorakas FC, AEM Mesogis FC and Cyprus's Under-17, U19, U21 and futsal teams. He leaves two small children behind.
