Twente take Dutch Intertoto place

FC Twente booked a place in this summer's UEFA Intertoto Cup as the Netherlands' inaugural end-of-season play-offs came to a close in Enschede on Sunday.

Sibum goals
Bas Sibum was the hero for Twente, scoring both goals in a 2-0 play-off victory against BV Vitesse after the first leg had ended 1-1 in Arnhem. The 23-year-old Sibum broke the deadlock with his first goal in over 75 games for the club with less than a quarter of the game remaining, and he did not have to wait long for a second as three minutes later he doubled the advantage. Defender Rahim Ouedraogo was later dismissed but it failed to take the gloss off their European entry.

New format
The match completes the inaugural play-off format in the Netherlands, when places in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup and even Eredivisie status were decided in a knockout competition. AFC Ajax join PSV Eindhoven in Europe's premier club competition after beating FC Groningen, whose consolation is UEFA Cup entry along with AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and SC Heerenveen. The relegation/promotion play-offs saw NAC Breda and Willem II retain their top-flight status.
