Floriana FC legend Willie Vassallo has returned to Malta to become the club's new coach for next season.

Australian move
Having played for Floriana since 1966, Vassallo moved to Australian side Green Gully Ajax in 1977 and has been involved in football in Australia for the last 27 years. However, the 28-times capped Maltese international is now ready to face a new challenge back on the island.

Dream return
Having led Green Gully's under-21 side in the Victoria State Premier League last season, the 54-year-old is looking forward to returning to his old club. "It has always been my ambition to come back to Malta as a coach," he told uefa.com. "It has finally happened with my beloved former club Floriana."

Floriana ambitions
He added: "Now, we all have to be realistic. I have already spoken to the players and there seems to be potential in the squad. I very much believe in dialogue. My main target is to put Floriana in a much more respectable position in Maltese football. I am so glad to be back in Malta."
