Ecuadorian international defender Ulises de la Cruz has agreed a new two-year contract with Premiership side Aston Villa FC. The deal should keep the 30-year-old, who impressed as a replacement for the injured Mark Delaney last term, at Villa Park until June 2006. De la Cruz said: "Whether I'm in the team or not now Mark is fit, depends on the manager. All I can do is play as well as possible and hope to be selected, but I feel more confident after a run of games at the end of last season."

Bundesliga new boys DSC Arminia Bielefeld have received a blow with the news that striker Isaac Boakye will be sidelined for three weeks with a knee injury. The 22-year-old returned from Olympic duty with Ghana earlier this week after doctors diagnosed ligament damage to his right knee. Boakye scored 14 goals in 26 games in Arminia's promotion campaign. He could return for the trip to FC Bayern München on 11 September.

Icelandic Premier League team Keflavík have terminated the contract of goalkeeper Ólafur Gottskálksson. Club officials have refused to comment on the decision. The 36-year-old will now travel to England on Friday for a trial with Watford FC. "A number of clubs have been in contact," he said.
