Nilsson set for Southampton

Swedish international Mikael Nilsson has agreed to join Southampton FC from Halmstads BK.

Swedish international midfield player Mikael Nilsson has signed a pre-contract agreement with Premiership side Southampton FC, who he will join when his current deal with Halmstads BK expires at the end of November.

Three Swedes
The 26-year-old, who played every minute of Sweden's UEFA EURO 2004™ campaign, will link up with international team-mates Anders and Michael Svensson at Saint Mary's after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

'Tremendous players'
Nilsson told the club's website: "I am delighted to be joining Southampton. It is a good club with great facilities and some tremendous players and I am very excited by the challenge."

Negotiations ongoing
Southampton, who finished 12th in the Premiership last season, are still in negotiations with Halmstad to bring forward the terms of the agreement and allow Nilsson to join up with Paul Sturrock's squad before the start of the English season in mid-August.
