'A decision I accept'
"It is within the Federation's powers to sack me, and it is a decision I accept," González said. "It was a high-powered job that I was in and I would have preferred to have left in different circumstances, but it wasn't my choice."

Getting rid of González could cost the RFEF as much as €1m in a financial settlement. "All that's left to do is the prosaic part," added González, who joined Spanish football's governing body as a press officer in 1985 before working his way up to the position of general secretary, which he occupied for a decade.
