Article body
Scottish Premier League side Motherwell FC have signed goalkeeper Gordon Marshall, Northern Irish international defender Stephen Craigan and attacking midfield player Alex Burns.
Relegation reprieve
Motherwell finished bottom of the SPL and were only spared relegation when first division champions Falkirk FC were refused promotion for failing to meet stadium criteria. Marshall has signed a one-year deal after being released by Kilmarnock FC, while Craigan and Burns have both agreed two-year contracts to move to Fir Park from Partick Thistle FC.
Long career
Marshall, 39, has had a long career which has included spells at both Rangers FC and Celtic FC, as well as one appearance for Scotland against the United States in 1992. Northern Irish international Craigan, meanwhile, was previously with Motherwell for five years before a switch to Partick in 2000. Craigan and Burns were both out of contract at Partick.
Contracts extended
Manager Terry Butcher has given a contract extension to 17-year-old striker David Clarkson, who made 23 appearances last season for Motherwell. He is now committed to the club until 2006. Striker Steven Craig, meanwhile, has signed a one-year extension.
