Dnipro striker succumbs to injury

FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk will be without Ukrainian international Oleg Venglinski for two months.

Top scorer
Venglinski has been ordered to rest after failing to recover from the injury he sustained in the recent Ukrainian Cup defeat by FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The 25-year-old, who top-scored in the first half of the Premier League season with 13 goals, had hoped to be available for his country's friendly against Denmark on 30 April.

'Serious injury'
Dnipro coach Evgen Kucherevsky said: "This is a very serious injury. I have been worried about Oleg for some time - he missed three months of pre-season and this was always going to take its toll. He got tired and sustained the injury and it could have been avoided. It will be a long recovery period."

Fitness blow
Venglinski, who returned to the national side in Ukraine's 2-1 friendly win against Latvia earlier this month, is unlikely to be fit in time for the UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 6 qualifiers against Armenia and Greece on 7 and 11 June. The former FC Dynamo Kyiv player is due back in light training at the end of May. Dnipro lie fourth in the Premier League table with 43 points from 21 games - ten points behind leaders Shakhtar.
