Golden Player
Paul Van Himst, the former Belgian international of the 1960s and 70s and RSC Anderlecht forward, was presented with a medal marking his selection as Belgium's Golden Player. Van Himst was voted the country's best player of the past 50 years as part of UEFA's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Thys honoured
URBSFA-KBVB president Jan Peeters also used the occasion last night to honour the memory of former national team coach Guy Thys, who died last year at the age of 80. Peeters presented Thys's widow, Christiane, with a FIFA Order of Merit medal recognising the trainer's achievements over 114 international matches.
Word of thanks
In addition, Peeters thanked the association's staff for their contribution to the national game, saying: "We are grateful to those people who, year in year out, make a contribution to football and the KBVB. Thanks for their knowledge, efforts and years of service. Because of them, the KBVB can function as it does."
