Stuttgart spell
The 28-year-old playmaker left FC Basel 1893 for VfB Stuttgart in early 2004 after impressing in the UEFA Champions League the previous season. However, he never settled in Germany, starting only two Bundesliga games in his first term and making just one substitute appearance in the league this season before going on loan to Galatasaray SK in the transfer window.
Intertoto campaign
However, he did not make a breakthrough in Turkey and despite having two years left on his Stuttgart contract, the inspiration behind Switzerland's UEFA EURO 2004™ qualification has gone to Berne to play in the city's new Stade de Suisse, a UEFA EURO 2008™ venue. Young Boys will enter the Intertoto Cup in the second round against Estonia's JK Trans Narva or KSC Lokeren OV of Belgium in the first week of July after being pipped to a UEFA Cup place by another of Yakin's former sides, Grasshopper-Club.
