Article body
AC Milan and As Roma both recorded solid 3-0 victories on Sunday to pull level with Juventus FC on ten points at the top of Serie A.
Nedved special
Juventus had moved into first place on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Reggina Calcio thanks to goals from Marco Di Vaio and the outstanding Pavel Nedved. But Internazionale FC missed the chance to join Juve at the top when they were held to a goalless draw by Udinese Calcio later that evening.
Parma slip
It left three sides with a chance of joining Marcello Lippi's side at the summit on Sunday, but where Milan and Roma were successful at home against US Lecce and Ancona Calcio respectively, Parma AC were held to a 1-1 draw by AC Siena. Nikola Lazetic gave the visitors the lead and Parma only saved themselves from a first defeat of the season thanks to Adriano's 79th-minute leveller.
Shevchenko double
Andriy Shevchenko was the star of Milan's victory, scoring a neat opening goal and a spectacular second to put Carlo Ancelotti's side in the ascendancy. Jon Dahl Tomasson added the third with an 89th-minute tap-in.
Montella opener
Roma struggled during the first 45 minutes but found a higher gear after the interval as substitute Vincenzo Montella settled their nerves on 48 minutes. Francesco Totti doubled Roma's lead and Marco Delvecchio's late header completed the victory.
First win
Modena FC shot up to eleventh with their first win of the season, a 2-0 triumph at home against Bologna FC. First-half goals from Nicola Amoruso and Diomansy Kamara were enough to secure all three points for Alberto Malesani's side.
Late comeback
Sampdoria UC were also winners at home - but they had to come from behind against Brescia Calcio - who were leading through Stefano Mauri's goal with three minutes to go. But Fabio Bazzani pulled Sampdoria level and Francesco Flachi kept his cool to convert a last-minute penalty after Atsushi Yanagisawa was hauled down in the Brescia box.
Cheivo rising
Luigo Del Neri's AC Chievo Verona moved up to seventh spot with a comfortable 4-1 win against AC Perugia. Andrea Zanchetta's 30-metre free-kick got them up and running and although Marco Di Loreto equalised, Zanchetta's successful spot-kick soon restored Chievo's lead. Franco Semioli and Mario Santana made sure of the victory with goals in the final half-hour.
Lazio recovery
In the day's late game, S.S. Lazio came from behind to rescue a 2-2 draw against Empoli FC. Dejan Stankovic gave the visitors a 38th-minute lead but Antonio Di Natale's lob levelled the scores and Francesco Tavano put Empoli ahead with 13 minutes remaining. Simone Inzaghi's neat back-heel set up Stefano Fiore for the equaliser on 87 minute
