Premiership newcomers Portsmouth FC have signed Czech midfield player Patrik Berger from Liverpool FC.
Two-year deal
The 29-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 1996 after helping the Czech Republic reach the final of EURO 96™, has agreed a two-year deal with the south coast side who won the first division last season.
'Speaks volumes'
"A lot of big clubs were interested in Patrik and we have persuaded him to sign for Pompey where he can see the potential of what we are trying to do at Fratton Park," chief executive Peter Storrie said on the club's website. "We think this speaks volumes for the progress of Portsmouth Football Club."
Injury problems
Berger played 136 games for Liverpool, scoring 35 goals, but injury restricted him to just four appearances last season and he was out of contract.
