Mönchengladbach snap up Ziege

Germany defender Christian Ziege has joined VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer.

Late inclusion
Ziege, who was a late inclusion in the German squad after Hamburger SV midfield player Christian Rahn failed a fitness test, joined Mönchengladbach on Tuesday evening on a free transfer after his contract with English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur FC expired.

Fifth signing
The 32-year old defender is the club's fifth signing ahead of the 2004/05 season after Milan Fukal, Oliver Neuville, Darius Kampa and Sead Ramovic. Sporting director Christian Hochstätter is was delighted to have signed the left-back, who has been capped 72 times by his country.

Experience helps
He said: "Christian is extremely experienced and will certainly help stabilise our defensive performances. We were looking for a left-footed player and he fits the bill perfectly I am very happy that he has decided to join us."
