Giovane Elber scored four goals in FC Bayern München's 6-2 victory against DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

Giovane Elber scored four goals as FC Bayern München announced their intention to claim back the 1. Bundesliga title with a 6-2 victory against newly promoted DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

Bayern bounce back
Bielefeld had made a great start to the season with a 3-0 victory against SV Werder Bremen last week, but they came up against a Bayern side disappointed with their 0-0 draw against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach seven days ago.

Four for Elber
Elber opened the scoring on 18 minutes and added another just before half-time, after Michael Ballack had opened his account for his new team. Fatmir Vata pulled one back after the break, but two more from Elber and a goal from Claudio Pizarro ensured Bayern's comfortable win. Mamadou Lamine Diabang scored Bielefeld's second in stoppage time.

Level at Leverkusen
In the meeting of last season's top two, champions BV Borussia Dortmund held Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1-1 in the BayArena. Leverkusen went ahead midway through the first half thanks to Diego Placente, but Jan Koller equalised for Dortmund on 61 minutes.

Bochum top the table
Newly promoted VfL Bochum 1848 are top of the table with eight goals from two wins after beating FC Energie Cottbus 5-0. Thomas Christiansen made it five for the season after claiming a hat-trick, two of his goals coming in the first 35 minutes, by which stage Slawo Freier had also scored. Vahid Hashemian made it 4-0 on 64 minutes, and Christiansen added his third near the end.

Rostock win again
FC Hansa Rostock are just behind in second after beating 1. FC Nürnberg 2-0. Rene Rydlewicz put them ahead on 37 minutes and scored another near the end to give his side their second victory by that scoreline of the season.

Comeback for Schalke
FC Schalke 04 recovered from the loss of a goal and a man to claim a 3-1 victory at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Thomas Riedl put the home team ahead in the 33rd minute, and things seemed bad for Schalke when Sven Vermant was sent off soon after. But the visitors were ahead early in the second half thanks to goals from Jorg Bohme and Victor Agali, and Ebbe Sand confirmed the victory in stoppage time.
