Croatia course helps goalkeeping coaches

A part of the game – not apart from the game – the role of the goalkeeper in football is constantly evolving. Consequently, UEFA invests time in training their coaches, with the latest regional 'tutor the tutor' course for national associations taking place in Zagreb.

Specialists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia joined the hosts to take part in group discussions and created the environment to develop coach educators, respecting the reality-based learning approach.

Who delivers the course?

UEFA works with many experts from the field including former international goalkeepers Packie Bonner (Republic of Ireland), Savvas Constantinou (Cyprus) and Mart Poom (Estonia) as well as Marc Van Geersom (Belgium) and Jan Erik Stinessen (Norway). They delivered theoretical and practical teaching to the associations attending in Croatia at the goalkeeper A licence level.

"We launched this course one year ago and have learned a lot, but we can still improve," said Aleksander Sarić, A licence goalkeeper coach at the Football Association of Serbia (FSS). "UEFA has made us aware of the gaps in our methods and we will carry on working together to raise our standards in football."
