Rosenborg reign again in Norway

Rosenborg have secured the Norwegian title for a record 23rd time after crossing the finish line with two games to spare courtesy of a 3-3 draw at Strømsgodset on Sunday.

The result left the UEFA Europa League contenders nine points clear of Stabæk and thus brought them their first league crown since 2010, outgoing champions Molde having clinched three titles over the last four years.

The Trondheim club have also booked themselves a berth in UEFA Champions League qualifying next season, another reward for coach Kåre Ingebrigtsen, who was appointed last year and implemented an attacking style of football reminiscent of the side's run of 13 consecutive titles between 1992 and 2004.

Forwards Pål André Helland and Alexander Søderlund proved particularly instrumental in the title win, along with midfielders Ole Selnæs and Mike Jensen, though Rosenborg also owe their success to a solid defence and the consistently excellent performances of goalkeeper André Hansen.

"This means a lot to the club and the whole city of Trondheim – the trophy belongs in Trondheim," said Ingebrigtsen, who gave his players permission to celebrate their triumph. "They have worked so hard all year, so there is no training tomorrow."
