FC Bayern München defender David Alaba has been named Austrian Player of the Year for the fourth time in a row.
Alaba's latest accolade was voted for by the coaches of the Austrian Bundesliga and handed over by the Austrian Press Agency. Alaba was honoured ahead of FC Salzburg duo Jonatan Soriano and Kevin Kampl. All ten of the coaches involved in the award opted for Alaba, who becomes the first player to claim the prize for four successive years.
"A huge thanks to the coaches who have voted for me," said the versatile 22-year-old, who has scored eight goals in 35 appearances for his country. "Of course this is something special for me, I am very happy about it." Salzburg coach Adi Hütter added: "He is an extraordinary footballer who wins trophies at the highest level. He is a real leader at Bayern."
Alaba claimed a league and cup double with Bayern in 2014 and has helped Austria to a fine start to their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign. Marcel Koller's team top Group G with ten points from their opening four fixtures.
