SL Benfica have announced the signing of Brazilian left-back Djavan da Silva Ferreira on a four-year contract from SC Corinthians Alagoano.
The 26-year-old joins the Portuguese champions after spending the 2013/14 campaign on loan at A. Académica de Coimbra, where he made 27 Liga appearances. "There were other clubs interested in me, but when the name of Benfica came up I had no doubts", said Djavan.
"It is a unique opportunity and you can be sure that I will honour this shirt. I will join a very strong group of players and I will do everything to help the team achieve the success that makes our millions of supporters happy. I am a team player and I am eager to start working."
Djavan becomes Benfica's second summer acquisition, following the purchase of young Polish midfielder Paweł Dawidowicz. The Eagles, who will compete in next season's UEFA Champions League group stage, were in need of strengthening the left side of their defence after last season's first choice left-back Guilherme Siqueira, on loan from Granada CF, sealed a transfer to Club Atlético de Madrid.
