Pirlo signs on at Juventus for two more years

Andrea Pirlo has signed a new two-year deal that should keep him at Juventus beyond his 37th birthday.

Pirlo, 35, has penned a contract which is set to run until 30 June 2016. His existing terms were due to expire at the end of this month. "The incredible story of the 'Professor' [Pirlo's nickname] and Juventus is set to continue," read a Bianconeri statement. "It was 24 May 2011 when Pirlo was announced as a Juve player. Somewhat prophetically, the playmaker introduced himself to the fans by declaring: 'I can't wait to start winning in these colours and I'm sure I can repay the great reception I've been given by showing the utmost dedication and hopefully winning some big prizes too.'"

Pirlo kept his word, helping the Turin club to three successive Serie A titles. He has made 131 appearances, set up more than 30 goals and found the net 14 times over that period. The former Brescia Calcio and FC Internazionale Milano schemer also won two UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two Serie A championships during a decade with AC Milan. He helped the Azzurri to FIFA World Cup glory in Germany in 2006.

Juve will go straight into the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League group stage following this season's title success.
