Davor Šuker has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) for the next four years, having been president of the association since 2012.
"It is a great honour to be the president of the Croatian Football Federation, and to fight for Croatian football as I once did on the pitch," said the 46-year-old Šuker. "It was always my wish to give back to football what the game has given to me, and I believe I can do that in the best possible way from this position.
"It is impressive to see what we have done in the last two years, and I would like to thank everyone in the football family, who made a significant contribution to this success," the 69-times capped former Croatia striker added. "I want to encourage everyone to continue in the same way, protecting the interests of Croatian football, while respecting others. Your support helps me to give my all for the development of Croatian football."
Šuker was named by the HNS as Croatia's Golden Player to mark UEFA's Jubilee in 2004. He won a Spanish title and the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid CF, and his six goals at the 1998 FIFA World Cup helped him to win the Golden Shoe, as well as bringing Croatia a bronze medal. He also enjoyed fine spells with hometown side NK Osijek, GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Sevilla FC and Arsenal FC.
The HNS president welcomed UEFA's support to Croatia, and explained: "We want to invest in domestic football. We want to see children with happy faces in all parts of the country, because football is by far the most popular sport in Croatia."
