"This is a wonderful feeling," said Ivan Tomečak after HNK Rijeka won the Croatian Cup for the third time as a 2-0 home defeat of GNK Dinamo Zagreb sealed a 3-0 aggregate win.

HNK Rijeka won the Croatian Cup for the third time after a 2-0 home defeat of GNK Dinamo Zagreb sealed a 3-0 aggregate win.

Last Wednesday, Rijeka travelled to Zagreb and won 1-0 with an Ivan Tomečak goal. Then tonight Matej Mitrović scored on 35 minutes and Zoran Kvržić added another late on to spark celebrations in Rijeka and gain some revenge for being pushed into second place in the title race by champions Dinamo.

"This is a wonderful feeling," said Tomečak – who joined Rijeka last year from Dinamo. "We lived for this moment, to have an opportunity to win the trophy and we did it. We gave our best, we played as a team and we showed what we can do. We had fantastic fans on our side, they helped us achieve this huge success."

Rijeka had previously won the cup in 2005 and 2006, and along with NK Osijek and NK Inter Zaprešić are the only clubs outside the Dinamo-HNK Hajduk Split duopoly to lift the trophy. Dinamo have now lost just five of their 17 cup finals in the 23-year-old post-independence competition.
