HB Tórshavn have clinched their 22nd Faroese championship title with a game to spare after securing a 1-0 victory against relegation-threatened TB Tvøroyri.
Last crowned in 2010, HB moved top of the standings early in the campaign and established a lead that fluctuated between five and ten points for most of the season. Taking a five-point advantage over nearest rivals ÍF Fuglafjørður into their meeting with TB, they therefore needed just one more win to regain the title.
After an even opening to the match, HB eventually began to dominate and Christian Mouritsen forced TB goalkeeper Ivan Stojkovic into a couple of excellent saves before the break. The hosts then went close again early in the second half, only for Brazilian left-back Alex José dos Santos to miss from close range.
Shortly afterwards, TB threatened at the other end with a shot from Senegalese midfielder Ndende Adama Guéye, which Teitur Gestsson saved well. That did not herald a change in momentum, however, as HB regained their composure and registered on 67 minutes when Mouritsen steered in from inside the area.
"It's absolutely fantastic, because this is actually a dream come true for me and it can't get better than this," said HB coach Oddbjørn Joensen. "This year has been exceptionally joyful for us. We've played extremely well and the team have been clearly in front since the sixth round of games. It's actually a great redemption for us to have finally clinched the title."
