On 29 November 2013, Liechtenstein club FC USV Eschen/Mauren celebrated their 50th anniversary, with numerous guests from the principality and beyond in attendance.

There are only seven football clubs in Liechtenstein. Four of these – FC Vaduz, FC Balzers, FC Schaan and FC Triesen were established in 1932, and founded the Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV) in 1934. FC Ruggell followed in 1958 and FC Triesenberg in 1972.

In between these two, the 'Unterländer Sportverein' (lowland sports club; USV) came into being in the two municipalities of Eschen and Mauren. Fifty years on, USV is Liechtenstein's largest football club in terms of its active membership, and in sporting terms is also one of the major players in the principality behind FC Vaduz.

The club's management used the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to invite guests from Liechtenstein and abroad. The club's 'birthday' celebrations included the launch of an anniversary book that looks back on the history of USV.

LFV president Matthias Voigt said: "When we congratulate USV, these congratulations obviously go to all those people who founded the club and who have shaped, formed, characterised and led it over the last five decades. Many people have contributed to making USV what it is today. Some were only involved with the club for a short time, others practically embody it and have felt a connection with it for decades."
