Following the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Calcio Catania in the Sicilian derby on Sunday, Serse Cosmi has left his post as coach of US Città di Palermo to be replaced by his predecessor Delio Rossi.
Rossi, 51, left Palermo on 28 February the day after his side's 7-0 loss against Udinese Calcio. However, in their four league matches under Cosmi, the Rosanero mustered just three points courtesy of their surprise 1-0 home victory against Serie A leaders AC Milan.
"Today's defeat was worse than the one against Udinese, because for us the derby against Catania is very important and the players know that," said Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini on Sunday. "I did not like the performance of my team today."
Rossi first took charge of Palermo in November 2009 and made an immediate impact at the Sicilian club, guiding them to a fifth-placed finish and a place in this season's UEFA Europa League, with their campaign ending at the group stage. Palermo lie eighth in Serie A with 43 points, seven shy of AS Roma, who currently occupy the last remaining UEFA Europa League berth.
