Nooijer says yes to Feyenoord

'Over my dead body'
De Nooijer has been brought in to solve coach Bert van Marwijk's defensive crisis, with Feyenoord struggling with injuries to Ramon van Haaren and Chong-Gug Song. "Gerard is a real winner, with the sort of 'over my dead body' mentality that we need," said Van Marwijk. The new signing can operate either at left-back or centre-back.

Out of favour 
Van Marwijk also had no doubts over the fitness of De Nooijer, who had fallen out of favour at Heerenveen, and whose twin brother Dennis plays for NEC Nijmegen. "He hasn't had regular football over the last few months so I don't know if he is ready to go straight into the team," the coach said, "but he will definitely be in the squad."
