Porto fulfil treble dream

FC Porto completed a domestic and European treble on Sunday, beating UD Leiria 1-0 to lift the Portuguese Cup for the 12th time in their history.

Another success
After victory in the Portuguese SuperLiga championship and a 3-2 win against Celtic FC to claim the UEFA Cup, coach José Mourinho's side secured yet another success thanks to Derlei's 63rd-minute winner.

Miraculous recovery
Having originally being ruled out of the showpiece with a broken jaw sustained during training, the Brazilian striker completed a miraculous recovery to score the decisive goal. Porto right-back Paulo Ferreira found the unmarked Derlei, and the top scorer in this season's UEFA Cup turned in his teasing cross.

Deco free-kick
With the final taking place more than two weeks after the end of the domestic season, both teams looked a little jaded. Porto took control of the opening exchanges, with Leiria content to play on the counterattack. The first clear-cut chance of the match came on 57 minutes when Deco's dangerous free-kick was saved by Leiria goalkeeper Helton.

Douala introduced
Porto's patience was rewarded with Derlei's goal six minutes later and the champions enjoyed their best moments once they had taken the lead. However, Leiria coach Manuel Cajuda introduced striker Douala as his side looked for a way back into the match and Porto keeper Vitor Baía was called into action on several occasions.

'No words'
Just when the Porto section of the 38,000 crowd were preparing to celebrate, Leiria forward Silas hit a post with only seconds remaining. Mourinho hailed his side's achievement after the final whistle, saying: "There are no words to explain the feeling. We have won all the competitions, of course I am very happy. It is the first time that a Portuguese team has achieve three titles in the same season and that will be forever in the history of this club".

'Sprit, union and friendship'
Porto captain Jorge Costa spoke of Porto's unity in the aftermath of the game. "In the first place, I want to give thanks to our fantastic coach because we have dealt with some big responsibilities in our season. The second word goes to the sprit, union and friendship of all the players."

'No luck'
A dejected Cajuda, in charge of his final game as coach of Leiria, added: "We had some opportunities and we fought until the end, but we did not have any luck. Congratulations to Porto for this unique season".
