Fourth title
The league champions, Portuguese Cup winners and UEFA Cup holders claimed their fourth trophy in the space of a few months despite the best efforts of Leiria's Brazilian goalkeeper Helton.
Only goal
Half-time substitute Costinha scored what proved to be the only goal of the game after 50 minutes, heading in a free-kick from left-back Nuno Valente. Things went from bad to worse for Leiria after 70 minutes when defender João Paulo was shown a red card for deliberate handball.
'We didn't play our best'
Porto coach José Mourinho was satisfied with the victory against the club he coached until the end of the 2001/02 season. "I have to congratulate my players because they won another trophy but we didn't play our best," he said. "A win is good but our objective is to win and play well, which was not the case today."
