Club Atlético de Madrid can count on the experience of Emre Belözoğlu when they defend their UEFA Europa League title after the Turkish international midfielder arrived in the Spanish capital on a free transfer from Fenerbahçe SK.
Having earlier revealed the capture of FC Porto winger Cristian Rodríguez, Los Colchoneros moved quickly to add 31-year-old Emre on a two-year deal. A product of the Galatasaray AŞ youth team, Emre went on to score 13 goals in 102 top-flight appearances for the Turkish team, where he also won Turkish Super League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup honours.
A four-season spell at FC Internazionale Milano followed, before the left-footed midfielder switched to Newcastle United FC in 2005. A scorer of eight goals in 80 international appearances, Emre recently enjoyed Turkish Cup success with Fenerbahçe, the team where he played 103 Süper Lig games since 2008.
The UEFA Europa League champions will look to defend their title from the tournament's group stage next term.
