Real Madrid CF coach José Mourinho has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Liga champions until 2016.

The 49-year-old – who arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu from FC Internazionale Milano in 2010 – added to the Copa del Rey success in his first season in charge by guiding the Merengues to their 32nd league title this term.

A UEFA Champions League-winning coach with FC Porto and Inter, Mourinho also helped to improve Madrid's recent showing in Europe's premier club competition by guiding them to the semi-finals in successive seasons.

Since arriving in the Spanish capital, Mourinho has overseen 117 victories in official competition with his side registering 322 goals. Madrid fought off stern competition from FC Barcelona to win their latest league title, registering 100 points and scoring a record 121 goals in the process.

The nine-time European champions moved to sign Mourinho as a replacement for Manuel Pellegrini two summers ago after the former Chelsea FC manager had completed a European Cup, Scudetto and Coppa Italia treble with Inter. Prior to that, he helped Porto to UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League successes before going on to guide Chelsea to back-to-back Premier League titles.
