The former president of the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA), Desmond Reoch, has passed away at the age of 64.

He was a stalwart of Gibraltarian football throughout his life, carrying out several different functions in support of all levels of the Gibraltarian game.

Mr Reoch was at the helm of the GFA following its admittance to UEFA in 2013, successfully steering the association through the early stages of its membership of the European football body.

He qualified in business administration before going on to a successful professional career, and was also a qualified quality assurance auditor.

An amateur player and referee, Mr Reoch was a committee member and treasurer of the Gibraltar Referees Association for several years. He also served as secretary of Manchester United (Gibraltar) FC, and worked for another seven years as secretary of the Gibraltar Junior Football League.

He was elected vice-president of the Gibraltar Football Association in July 2012, and was elected president in August 2013. He stepped down as president two years later.

"Gibraltarian football has lost a true great," the association said. "A man who loved the sport through and through, and who dedicated his life to it."
