Match For Solidarity media accreditation now open

UEFA and the United Nations Office in Geneva have announced that the application process for media accreditation for the Match for Solidarity has opened today; exactly one month prior to the match, which will take place on Saturday 21 April 2018 at 16.00CET at the Stade de Genève. The event is being organised with the support of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, the City of Geneva and the Geneva Stadium Foundation.

Media representatives wishing to attend this joint UEFA-United Nations charity football match are requested to send an email to media.accreditations@uefa.ch, stating “Match for Solidarity” in the subject header, no later than 13 April 2018 at 12:00CET. A confirmation email will be sent a couple of days after the deadline.

The two teams will be captained by Luís Figo and Ronaldinho, while Carlo Ancelotti and Didier Deschamps have been announced as the two coaches. The match will be refereed by Pierluigi Collina. A glittering roster of players has been assembled so far for this event. Those who have confirmed their participation include: Éric Abidal, Cafu, Deco, Dida, Youri Djorkaeff, Alexander Frei, Luis García, Nuno Gomes, Christian Karembeu, Fernando Hierro, Robbie Keane, Henrik Larsson, Jari Litmanen, Gaizka Mendieta, Antonios Nikopolidis, Robert Pirès, Andrea Pirlo, Célia Šašić and Dejan Stanković. The full line-ups of the two teams will be announced about a week prior to when the match is due to take place.

The proceeds from this event, as well as from the charity dinner and a unique digital football auction, will go to the UEFA Foundation for Children. The funds will be used to finance humanitarian and development projects to help children with disabilities both at a local and global level. The projects will be selected by a committee of representatives from UEFA, the United Nations Office in Geneva and the Fondation du Stade de Genève. The local beneficiary for this year will be Autisme Genève, a non-profit organisation founded in Geneva in 2007 under the initiative of parents whose children live with autism spectrum disorders.

Tickets for the match, which starts at 16.00CET, are priced at CHF 10, CHF 17 and CHF 22, and can be purchased at www.ticketcorner.ch. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch the pre-match activities involving both local and international children starting around an hour before kick-off.
