Italian football is mourning Eugenio Bersellini, the former Inter Milan coach, who has died at the age of 81.

Nicknamed 'il sergente di ferro' – The Iron Sergeant – for his training methods and tough character, Bersellini spent five seasons at Inter, leading the Nerazzurri to two Coppa Italia titles and the 1980 Scudetto, the twelfth in the club’s history.

A former midfielder, he began his coaching career at Lecce in 1969. In Serie A, he coached Cesena, Sampdoria – with whom he won the 1985 Coppa Italia – Torino, Fiorentina and Bologna. He worked with other lower league clubs before moving to Libya, where he won the league with Al-Ittihad in 2001/02.
