• Born in Odessa, Grigoriy Surkis graduated from the Kiev Technical Institute of Light and Food Industry as a mechanical engineer in 1972 and, after taking on a number of roles in state and private companies, served as FC Dynamo Kyiv president from 1993 to 1998, followed by a further four years as honorary president.
• Formerly president of the Ukrainian football league, he was the Football Federation of Ukraine's vice-president from 1996 to 2000, before being elected for the first of three terms as president. He stepped down as the association's president in September 2012. Surkis became a UEFA vice-president in 2013.
• Also a member of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee, the married father of two played a major role in Ukraine's successful bid to co-host UEFA EURO 2012™. He has said: "My dearest wish is that football in Ukraine will play a big social role; that kids will grow up with a healthy philosophy and play the most exciting of all games holding the most peaceful weapon of all in their hands – a football."
