European and Belgian football is in mourning for the honorary president and former president of the Royal Belgian Football Association (URBSFA/KBVB), Jan Peeters, who has passed away at the age of 82.
Jan Peeters was president of the Belgian national association from 2001 to 2006, having served as vice-president from 1990 to 1996. He was a member of the URBSFA executive committee from 1977, and also held the post of association general secretary for four years. A key official within Belgium's Olympic movement, he headed the Belgian delegation to the Summer Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996.
Mr Peeters occupied several positions within UEFA bodies. He was chairman of the Assistance Programmes Committee from 2002 to 2006, and served as a member of the Juridical Committee, Committee for Non-Amateur Football, and Development and Assistance Committee. In addition, he contributed to UEFA matters as an external legal and transfers expert. Mr Peters was a member of the Amicale des Anciens circle of former UEFA committee members.
"Jan Peeters occupied important positions within the URBSFA for many years, and held various roles within FIFA and UEFA, where he was also enormously respected," said the current Belgian FA president François De Keersmaecker.
UEFA joins the Royal Belgian Football Association in extending its deepest sympathy to Mr Peeters' family and friends.
