Reinhard Grindel is the new German Football Association (DFB) president following his election at the association's extraordinary congress in Frankfurt.
The 54-year-old lawyer, who previously served as treasurer and anti-corruption officer for the DFB, is the 12th president in the history of the association.
"It is a great honour to take on this responsibility," Grindel said. "The DFB has some defining tasks ahead, which I would like to take on together with my colleagues on board and the presidential board, as well as the full-time staff at our headquarters.
"I'm delighted with the trust placed in me by the amateur and professional branches of German football. I see my role as harmonising the interests of the two. As president, I plan to further strengthen the unity of football." Speaking about future concepts, Grindel highlighted fair play and integrity as key aspects.
The DFB also appointed a new general secretary. Friedrich Curtius, 39 and also a lawyer, has served the association since 2006 – first as office manager for the general secretery, then as manager of the president's office.
