UEFA's Certificate in Football Management (UEFA CFM) programme continues to give people working in football across Europe a crucial grounding in various skills that help them advance in their careers and gain a greater knowledge of the game.
The latest national edition has been completed in Italy, with 32 participants graduating – 15 from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), five from Italian clubs, two from the National League of Professionals (Serie A) and ten guests from the national associations of Malta, Slovenia and Moldova.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and was attended by Michele Uva (FIGC CEO), Francesca Sanzone (FIGC deputy CEO), Norman Darmanin Demajo (Malta FA president), Bjorn Vassallo (Malta FA general secretary) – both present to honour the several Maltese FA graduates – and Thierry Favre (UEFA head of national associations development).
UEFA CFM graduates enhance their professional expertise and learn about numerous facets of football. The nine-month programme involves six interactive online modules and three face-to-face seminars. Key topics are football organisation, strategy and strategic management, operational management, marketing and sponsorship, communications, media and public relations, and event management.
Certificates are awarded by the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP) at the University of Lausanne. The UEFA CFM academic content is compiled by academics from universities in France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
"Today, you are joining the UEFA CFM community. This is a growing network of nearly 500 qualified professionals from all over Europe," Favre told the graduates. "As you know, football is becoming more and more professional. Consequently, the certificate you receive is definitely an asset for your career."
The CFM graduates were urged to understand the importance of knowledge-sharing within their organisations. "Football is a team sport," said Favre. "Football management is also a team process. Your responsibility is now to share your ideas, your knowledge, your expertise – UEFA wants you all to contribute to making football even better, even more successful, even more attractive."
Italy will stage its next CFM edition in October 2016.
