FC Midtjylland are the champions of Denmark for the first time, a 0-0 draw at struggling FC Vestsjælland giving them the Super League title with three games to spare.
Midtjylland had opened up a 12-point gap over FC København by beating the capital side 2-0 on Sunday, with a goal difference that effectively made them uncatchable. FCK kept their mathematical hopes alive on Wednesday night by winning against Aalborg BK but Midtjylland can now celebrate after a draw in which the closest they came was a header onto the post by Erik Sviatchenko.
Formed in 1999 by a merger between Ikast fS and Herning Fremad, Midtjylland are now slated for a UEFA Champions League debut in the second qualifying round after their first major trophy, and captain Kristian Bak Bach said: "It is just awesome. Of course, we knew we were extremely close after our victory against FCK, but it is really great that we have made it all clear with three matches left."
