"We believed we could win the title from the very beginning," said 43-year-old coach Branko Nišević as Hibernians FC received the championship trophy in Malta.

Hibernians FC are celebrating after being crowned Maltese champions for the 11th time, receiving the trophy having made their success mathematically certain on 18 April.

In their final game of the season, Hibernians beat runners-up Valletta FC 3-1, with all three goals scored by Brazilian Jorginho. Branko Nišević's side led the table from start to finish, losing only once all season, scoring 97 goals and conceding only 24. Jorginho ends the season as the league's top scorer with 25 goals – the same total as former team-mate Edison Tarabai who left Hibernians for South Korean side Seoul E-Land at the turn of the year.

"We believed we could win the title from the very beginning," said 43-year-old coach Nišević, who took charge of Hibernians in May 2013, having previously played for the club. "That is what we prepared for. We did not expect to win it the way we did. Now that one target has been met we have to set new ones - so now that we have wrapped up the title our next target is to try and win the FA Trophy. " Hibernians are one of the four sides competing in next weekend's semi-finals of the main cup competition on the island.
