KS Skënderbeu have clinched their fifth successive Albanian Super League title after a 2-0 victory over KS Flamurtari gave them an unassailable lead with one game remaining.
Goals from Liridon Latifi and Sabien Lilaj sealed a win that means the Korce outfit will finish the campaign unbeaten at home, winning 14 and drawing three. "Our team kept their composure throughout the season and today they can celebrate their hard work," said Mirel Josa, in his third season as coach at the club.
Skënderbeu's wait for a first Albanian Cup goes on, however. That honour will go to KF Laçi or a FK Kukësi side who can on Sunday seal second spot with a win against KF Tirana, who are a point and place below them. Kukës's challenge will be spearheaded by Pero Pejić, the league top scorer with 28 goals – double what anyone else has managed.
Subject to confirmation from UEFA, Skënderbeu will enter the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round.
