Hibernians FC are the new Maltese Premier League champions following a 3-1 win against Floriani FC in Ta' Qali.
Hibernians' nearest rivals, Valletta FC, were held to a 3-3 draw by Sliema Wanderers FC on Friday, meaning Hibernians would be assured of their first league title in six years with victory against Floriana. They duly picked up maximum points despite falling behind early on, maintaining their unbeaten record in all 30 league games this term.
"I have no doubt we deserved this 11th Maltese Premier League title," said Hibernians' Clayton Failla. "I believe that the club invested well from day one this season and finally we are now reaping the fruits of this good planning by the administration. I'm happy on a personal level – this is my first since our last title triumph in 2008-09. I would like to dedicate this title to my family – my wife and my newly-born son and everyone at Hibernians FC."
