Quaderer is new president in Liechtenstein

Hugo Quaderer has been elected as the new president of the Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV) at this week's delegates' assembly in Balzers. He follows Matthias Voigt, who steps down from office after three years at the helm.

Quaderer, 50, was a member of the government of the principality of Liechtenstein from 2005 to 2013 and, among his duties, served as sports minister. He is presently chief executive and delegate of the management board of a media company in Liechtenstein, but has been involved with football since his youth.

"Football is a great passion for me," he said on his election as the 16th president in the association's history. "This sport has fascinated me from when I was small." Quaderer said he was looking forward greatly to the challenge of leading the LFV. "I have seen that the association is working in a positive direction, and that a lot is being achieved in the youth sector."

The new LFV president's start-up period lasted only a short while. Just one day after his installation, he was in the spotlight as Liechtenstein's national team beat San Marino 1-0 in a friendly. "I am obviously thrilled I was able to begin my term of office with a victory," he said optimistically, "and I see this as a positive sign that motivates me even more to do my best for football in Liechtenstein."
