Tottenham's Kane thrilled by derby heroics

"It was incredible," said Harry Kane after inspiring Tottenham Hotspur FC to victory against Arsenal FC, leaving Arsène Wenger recommending the forward for an England debut.

Tottenham Hotspur FC came from behind to beat north London rivals Arsenal FC on Saturday – and not for the first time this season, their hero was Harry Kane.

Mesut Özil had given Arsenal an 11th-minute lead at White Hart Lane but Spurs were dominant throughout. Kane, playing against Arsenal for the first time, equalised just before the hour and with four minutes left got the winner.

That was Kane's 22nd goal of 2014/15, meaning he has scored more in 34 appearances this season than in the previous 91 senior club games in his career dating back to 2011. Kane, who recently signed a deal until 2020, was understandably thrilled to help UEFA Europa League contenders Spurs climb above Arsenal into fifth place – while both managers praised the 21-year-old, Arsène Wenger recommending him for an England debut.

UEFA.COM'S HARRY KANE PROFILE

Harry Kane on victory...
It's my first London derby and it was incredible. I watched so many as a kid and the feeling now is one I can't describe and won't forget. I'm happy for the team and the club. It is a special day. I am working on all aspects of my game and when I get in those areas I am confident. I am enjoying my football at the moment and playing with a smile on my face.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino on Kane...
Harry showed today that he is a great player, with a great performance, but my idea is that he can improve still and we need to push him to develop his potential because his potential is massive, but it was a fantastic performance today.

Arsène Wenger on Kane and defeat...
He was good as always. He grows and he has a good determination. He doesn't stop, he keeps going. When you have scored the number of goals he has scored, if you don't put him in [the England team], somebody will give him a passport to another country.

We scored early, but I think going forward, we didn't produce enough. When we went forward, we always looked dangerous to score but were we too focused to defend our goal? I think so. I believe that we made too many technical mistakes compared to our level, because of Tottenham in the middle of the park. They put us under pressure and we lost some balls we are not used to losing.
