Italian football is in mourning after the death of Angelo Anquilletti at the age of 71 following a long illness.
Anquilletti was born on 25 April 1943 in San Donato Milanese, Italy, and began his football career at Solbiatese Calcio in 1961, joining Atalanta BC three years later. The defender signed for Milan in 1966 and went on to represent the Rossoneri on 418 occasions in all competitions over eleven trophy-laden years before spending his final two seasons with AC Monza Brianza.
Capped twice by Italy, he was a member of their first UEFA European Championship winning squad in 1968. With Milan, Anquilletti won the league title in 1968, the European Champion Clubs' Cup and Intercontinental Cup a year later, UEFA Cup Winners' Cups in 1968 and 1973 and four Italian Cups.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the Anquilletti family," said Milan in a statement on their official website.
