Christian Wörns: My team of 2014

Former German international Christian Wörns relies largely on the Germany and Real Madrid CF squads for his selection, including a "goal machine" up front.

Former German international defender Christian Wörns has opted for a 4-3-3 formation as he picks his team of the year, with a strong Bundesliga bias.

Wörn, who won 66 caps for his country and counted Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain among his former clubs, has largely relied on the Germany and Real Madrid CF teams who won the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League respectively – although it is little surprise there is also room for two of FC Barcelona's standout stars.

View Wörns's selections below and make your own choice before 13.00CET on Tuesday 6 January.

Vote for your Team of the Year 2014

Manuel Neuer: Good all along the line, commands his area and has technical ability too.

Philipp Lahm: Good both at the back and going forward.

Jérôme Boateng: Strong in the air, quick and contributes well to his team's build-up play.

Sergio Ramos: Aggressive in the tackle, helps move the ball about and is a goal threat.

David Alaba: Pacy, anticipates situations well and makes good runs in attack.

Xabi Alonso: The strategist; reads the game well and always has the right solution in the build-up.

Ángel Di María: Quick on the ball and makes penetrating runs, but also works hard defensively. Makes assists and is a prolific scorer himself too.

Toni Kroos: Shifts the play well. A good finisher with his left and his right foot, tactically astute and a fine passer.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Goal machine! Brilliant from free-kicks and fast with the ball at his feet.

Neymar: Scores goals and provides assists; hard to get him off the ball.

Lionel Messi: Can both score and create goals. Always has a good solution in a tight space.
