B36 claim tenth Faroese title

B36 Tórshavn clinched their tenth Faroese title with a round to spare after a 3-1 victory against already-relegated B68 Toftir gave them an unassailable lead.

The eventual champions had led for the majority of the season, opening up a seven-point gap at one point from chasers HB Tórshavn, but, after losing twice in succession, had their lead whittled down to four before Sunday's match. However, B36 held their nerve to secure the crown for the first time since 2011.

That nerve was certainly tested when lowly B68 took a first-minute lead through Senegalese forward Ibrahima Camara. The visitors nevertheless drew level on 13 minutes when Lukasz Cieslewicz set up Nigerian striker Adeshina Lawal to equalise.

In first-half added time, Lawal then turned provider for Alex Mellemgaard to give B36 the lead and, with 20 minutes remaining, Klæmint Matras wrapped up the win and the championship with a third goal.

"It's a fantastic feeling," said Polish forward Cieslewicz. "We have been working extremely hard this year to reach our goal and we knew from the beginning that we could make it – and we did it." Captain Jákup Borg added: "This is big. I am really moved. The older you get, the more emotional it becomes."
