Valencia CF have filled the void left by departing coach Juan Antonio Pizzi by hiring Portuguese tactician Nuno Espírito Santo from Rio Ave FC on a one-year deal.
The Spanish side have agreed terms with Nuno, 40, after ending Argentinian Pizzi's six-month spell at the club on Wednesday. Nuno had been in charge of Rio Ave for the past two campaigns. Rio Ave finished 11th in the Liga last season, losing to SL Benfica in the 2013/14 Portuguese Cup and League Cup finals, but earning a substantial consolation prize in the form of a berth in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.
A former goalkeeper with Vitória Guimarães, CP Mérida, CA Osasuna and FC Porto, among others, Nuno will be hoping to help his new side to improve on an eighth-placed Spanish top-flight finish last term.
