Down to ten men for 70 minutes, FC Dinamo Tbilisi defied their numerical disadvantage to defeat FC Chikhura Sachkhere 2-1 in the Georgian Cup final at the Mikheil Meskhi stadium in Tbilisi.
Xisco Muñoz and Otar Martsvaladze scored for the holders in a sequel to the 2012/13 decider as the capital club repeated their double of last season by winning the trophy for the 11th time.
However, when centre-back George Rekhviashvili was sent off for fouling Giorgi Gabedava it seemed the opportunity was there for Chikhura to avenge their 3-1 loss in this fixture 12 months ago. It was Malkhaz Zhvania's Dinamo team, though, who took the lead two minutes later. Xisco intercepted Shota Kashia's intended pass to his goalkeeper and spectacularly fired the 15-time Umaglesi Liga champions ahead.
Chikhura upped the tempo after the break, putting Dinamo under pressure with faster and bolder attacking moves, a policy that paid dividends when Saba Lomia crossed for Giorgi Datunaishvili – scorer of the winning goal against Dinamo in the 2010 final for FC WIT Georgia – to equalise.
Soso Pruidze's men surged forward in search of another, Gabedava firing narrowly wide, yet it was Dinamo who struck again. Xisco played in Martsvaladze, who made no mistake when in the clear. Gabedava threatened an immediate riposte, yet his effort rattled the woodwork.
Dinamo captain and goalkeeper Giorgi Loria said: "It was a very difficult game, but we managed to win and claim the domestic double. I am happy that this season has turned out to be so successful for us. Thanks to our fans for their support. We will start our preparations for the European Cup soon and we are eager to perform well."
