Aalborg BK are celebrating after a goalless draw at FC Vestsjælland proved sufficient to seal the club's fourth Danish title with one game to spare.
Three points clear of FC Midtjylland before the game, Aalborg crossed the finishing line thanks to a 3-2 loss for their closest rivals at home to FC København. Unable to find a way through against Vestsjælland, Kent Nielsen's side were left grateful for Christián Bolaños's added-time winner for ten-man FCK against Midtjylland, the Costa Rica winger heading in from a corner. Before that, Morten Rasmussen had missed from the spot for Midtjylland with the scoreline 2-2.
"It's a crazy feeling," commented Aalborg forward Anders Jacobsen. "Just as we thought we were going to have to play for the championship again next Sunday, our fans in the corner went crazy – and we got the news from Herning. I think we deserved this title as we have been the best team over the season."
“Apart maybe from the start, we've been consistent and good at keeping our focus throughout the season," added Nielsen, for whom this represents a first title as coach. "That's an important part of the reason why we won the championship. I'm impressed by the players, many of whom have never been in a similar situation before. I'm proud of having fulfilled my own role, but I'm also proud of the entire coaching team, who have been good at guiding the players in the right direction."
