FC Banants are savouring their maiden Armenian league title after a 1-0 win at FC Pyunik secured the championship crown with a game to spare.

Closest pursuers FC Ararat lost to FC Gandzasar 2-1 earlier in the day, and that left Banants' players knowing that just a point against Pyunik would bring them the title. Zsolt Hornyák's men started the game powerfully and they opened the scoring in just the seventh minute, via Gevorg Karapetyan. The visitors then let numerous chances go begging, but the solitary goal proved enough to secure victory and with it a first title in the club's history.

"It wasn't easy," said Hornyák. "It was difficult to motivate the lads to win. We knew the results of the other matches and it put pressure on us. I am very pleased with the result and grateful to our players. They showed character and desire to win. Banants claimed this title thanks to our team spirit. I don't want to single out certain players as we have a great team. Despite winning the championship, it is not finished for us yet. We are aiming to get a victory in our last home game."
